walking tours…how touristy

June 23, 2008 · 1 Comment

.!.

went on a historical walking tour today led by our cheeky professor from trinity.  saw the place where the first dail met (irish parliament), the mayor’s house, some statues of important people (wolfe tone, robert emet, michael collins, molly malone).  professor babbled about how the locations of the statues were historically inaccurate…

if there’s anything that readers would like to request i report back on, feel free to let me know via comments.  like, “how’s the food?  do you drink a lot of tea?  are the classes hard?  are you freezing all the time?  does it rain a lot?”  eh.  yes.  no.  yes.  sort of.

tomorrow we have a meeting with the minister for the environment, john gormely. he is the leader of the green party here, so it will be great to pick the brain of THE authority on irish environmentalism. i’ll ask him about climate change legislation and the situation in mayo that i blogged about earlier. according to my host father and this blog, he has completely sold out and isn’t so green after all.

watched michael collins again today.  didn’t cry this time. maybe because i was dreaming about aidan quinn, who played the right hand man
(later a traitor) of michael collins.

now more horrible music.  they play this song EVERYWHERE….dance wiv me by dizzee rascal….yessss!
