wish my name were irish

derry is merry

tonight, my italian homestay host made falafel….who makes falafel?!  and pesto hummus.

also, there is a psychedelic light in my shower– it changes from red to blue to green. love these people.

today we visited a nonprofit called children in the crossfire. started by a derry man who was blinded by the british army during the conflict.

also went to “the fountain” which is a little enclave of protestants surrounded by a completely catholic area.  their entire estate (housing development) is wall off from the rest of the city.  in some parts, the wall is like 100 ft high– in order to stop the petrol bombs and paint bombs.

then we went to the pat finucane centre– named after a catholic lawyer who represented IRA men….killed by loyalist paramilitary.  the centre now works on truth recovery for the families of victims.  apparently, barack obama recently called for the pat finucane case to be reopened.

going to co donegal tomorrow afternoon after a long day of CONFLICT MEDIATION WORKSHOP.  oh joy.

home to dublin on friday night or saturday.

GOD. i don’t care anymore about how good your homestay in derry is going. i MISS YOU. i just got back from tnc (yes, you’re getting a drunk…blog post) and i wanted you there so badly. not only was it possibly the worst tnc of the year so far–understandable because of fall break–but it also reminded me hella of you. can i just reiterate how lame the irish are in order for you to get your ass back here? also, when do you get back to the states? i may be able to find a reason for pomona to pay for a trip out to the midwest. i mean, if i saw you it’d be worth it, for surrrrrrre.
