wish my name were irish

i’m officially old.

November 15, 2008 · No Comments

i’m sitting in my room doing some work and playing beck’s new album, modern guilt.  my 14 year old host sister had just returned from her hockey match and asks me what i’m listening to.

“oh it’s just beck’s new album.”

“who????”

“you know, beck….he had that hit with ‘loser.’ i’m a loser babbbyyy, so why don’t you kill me….

she looks at me blankly.  i pull up a youtube video with the song on it to refresh her memory.  she has to know this song.  after hearing that instantly recognizable guitar riff AND the chorus, she still has no idea.  i look at the copyright info in the info box next to the video.

“i mean it was in 1993, what year were you born?”

“1994.”

i am finally old enough to say to someone, “oh, that was before your time.”  apparently listening to beck makes me an old lady.  girl probably doesn’t even know that victoria beckham was a spice girl before she was mrs. beckham.

and i guess we all know where beck stands in terms of music copyright because modern guilt is not available for free (whatever, got it anyway) and neither version of the “loser” video can be posted here (”Embedding disabled by request”).  so thus, no youtube clip in this posting.  what a shame.
