wish my name were irish

the sound of my own voice

November 23, 2008 · 2 Comments

i like to talk a lot.  some might say that i like to hear the sound of my own voice.

i’m in the process of transcribing about 8 hours of interviews i’ve just done.  and while it’s mostly the other person talking, listening to the sound of my own voice makes my skin crawl. i sound like that?!  and i laugh all the time when i ask questions?  like a nervous tic?!

never speaking again.  okay, that’s a lie.  speaking lots in the future, but will be constantly paranoid about the sound of my voice.

8 days until i turn in my monstrosity of a paper.

16 days until i return to the lovely US of A.

expect lots of blog posts as i procrastinate the paper writing process.

READERS POLL:  there are way more of you reading this than i thought there were.  so i’m going to poll you on what i should do.  i have a large sum of money sitting in my irish bank account.  is the euro-dollar exchange rate going to get better or worse in the next 16 days? as in, should i take my money out NOW before it gets any worse?  or should i wait as long as possible in hopes that it will improve?   respond in the comments!  or when you talk to me on gchat!  or email me!  emily’s financial future depends on it!

If you have BofA, it’s worth checking to see what their exchange rate is. In France, I had about 300 euros in cash in the end of the semester… the official exchange rate was something like $1.55, but the rate BofA used was $1.65.

You can deposit foreign cash (bills only) into a BofA account with a printout from their website of the exchange rate is. (www.bankofamerica.com/foreigncurrency). Since they inflate the exchange rate, it’s great to put cash in your account that way.

I’m assuming your account is in euros, yes? If that’s the case, and you’ll only have cash, it shouldn’t matter when you pull it out of the Irish account. But if the account for some reason is in dollars, then everything I just said is likely irrelevant and I can’t help you. Good luck!

A professor of mine recorded all of our presentations and make us grade ourselves. I was disgusted by myself and gave myself like a C whereas everyone else (including the professor) gave me a A, A-, or B+. I ended up getting a B because I was so harsh on myself. OOPS
